The Directive 98/8/EC concerning the placing
of biocidal products on the market will dramatically
change the structure of the European biocide markets.
With its strict standards, the Biocidal Products
Directive will limit the availability of biocides,
which contain toxic and chemical active ingredients.
One consequence of the Directive is the drive
among manufacturers to work more closely with
their customers to define which active ingredients
are the most profitable to support. Consumers
are increasingly seeking hygienic products that
provide higher performance, offer longer shelf
life and are safe to use. Even with increasing
concern about the toxicology of biocides, these
products are and will remain in high demand.
